Commission

Established in 2020, Conrad Worrill Community Reparations Commission is a tax deductible 501C3 not-for-profit organization.

"Black Chicagoans, like Blacks throughout the country, deserve redress from harmful actions taken and not taken by their government that has resulted in massive socio-economic disparities and separate and unequal quality of life.

This Community, through one voice, must engage with City officials to ensure proper redress is gained.

The Conrad Worrill Community Reparations Commission was created to bring together the diverse elements of the Black Community for this effort.

- Kamm Howard, President

Community Involvement

Looking at the massive size of the City of Chicago from boundaries to boundary, the commission decided to breakdown the Reparation initiatives into territories by local community. There are 77 local communities in Chicago. *"550,432 of 2,666,702 Chicago residents reported income levels below the poverty line in the last year."

Each community will be represented by a member of that community to form subcommittees that roll up to the commission. This will allow a greater, more accurate consensus of facts and numbers to be collected in formulating a true and realistic plan, in addition to the implementation for African Descendants Reparations.

All Qualified communities and it's community members will be:

  1. Heard and Considered
  2. Represented Fair and Equitable
  3. Given the opportunity to pre-qualify their family receive reparations
  4. Extended the chance to Justify their Communities Involvement
  5. Able to Attend Educational Workshops and Field Trips
  6. Granted Access to specialized Corporate D.E.I. Training and Events

Research, Data & Proposals

In order to successfully understand and circumvent the systematic racism locally here in the Chicago area. The commission has to first start at the foundation and work it's way chronologically through the very fibers of time and space.

Several factors are needed in order for this alliance with the subcommittee to work:

  1. Understand what Reparations is
  2. Knowing Who will be included
  3. Determining how much a person has been injured and the amount needed to pay them
  4. Identify the Community Areas
  5. Developing a timeline to track/measure the objectives and goals

It has become overcome the many obstacles to employment, education, housing, justice, due process, health care and more facing African Americans,” according to a statement from the mayor’s office.

Political Advocacy

In an advisory capacity the CWCRC has been working with and liaison with the City of Chicago Subcommitte on Reparations. It has been birthed to keep in line with the original goals. The research , data and finding of the Commission will be compiled into briefings, proposals and reports to aide the subcommittee on Reparations history, needs, and disparities caused to African Descendants.

Our community commission that would be devoted to simultaneously exploring ways to close “the racial gaps in home ownership, educational funding, health care, [and] government contracts” and assist research and proposed findings to validate and/or assist the Alderman to annually report to the Mayor.

The City of Chicago Reparations original proposal called for the commission to include at least eight members from the “impacted community.” We will able to manage all the communities. CWCRC will be accepting applications for these member seats to join the commission soon.

The subcommittee “will work to right the wrongs of the past."

The Commission has paraphrased and referenced an article, "Chicago Will Not Create Reparations Commission After Lightfoot Objects by Heather Cherone on June 12, 2020."
